1. WATCHING BLOOD RUN

I see my blood
Cold, dark, uncheacked
Slowly covering the glass.
As I wait for the storm to close
It becomes all too clear
This sacrifice I made
Was meaningless in the end.
Its only herald
A foced seperation.

A pointless choice
Made by providence
An equation it semms I removed
Myself from
Without knowing
The remainder, I realize,
Is scarcely worth the air it takes
To say your name.

Watching blood run
A choice I exercise.
THe dregs of rain are starting to fade
As I in turn feel the weakness.

Is it loss that makes me see your face?
Or the simple architecture
Of a life
Spent and done.


2. COLLECTING THE PIECES

This time,
That shouldn't have been
Mine to take,
You discarded.

A temptation too great
To collect the pieces
I needed.
I need.

I wear your time
A mantle that protects me
From myself.

In you I can face the future
Without the burden of me.


3. TO SCATTER EVERY TRACE

I could scarcely believe that
I'd find myself wishing for a time
Long gone and barely remembered
A time that held us both
In benign hands
Gently narrowed and blinded.

But now I mock my own intent,
My own desire.
My inability to accept and believe
That time has claimed it:
The only one I wished for.

On the occasion of my death
The space left behind me
Will be small.

Between now and then
It a my simple, black hope
To scatter every trace I've left
Evenly eradicate all connection

My era of solitude will be complete
I will have believed in nothing.


4. AN EPICUREAN PRAYER

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.

Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.

Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?

Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?


5. TO EXPLAIN A LOSS

To explain a loss.
To manage the act
of breathing.
A breath
My time
Marked out by each other.

I am resigned
To the intricacies
Of my despair.
My desperation
A fathomless architecture
I occupy.

This loss I cannot accept
Will not accept.
I abhore your hope
Of things working out
For the best
