1. AT LENGTH THE DARKNESS PARTED AND WE BEHELD THE FIERY ABYSS

Through the chasm in the earth I fell.
My Godly companion caught me,
And we settled on the root of a great tree,
That had driven itself beneath the earth.
There we gazed into the void.
And the darkness parted like waves of water.
We beheld a cataract of blood
Descending over a multitude of souls
crying in pain.
"where, then" I asked,
"Is my eternal lot?"
And he pointed. "There.
Between the black and white spiders"

Whereupon I felt the flames of eternity
fanning my forlorn brow.
My companion left me. I fell, and was
Consumed by the fiery abyss.
Till at length I waked on sunlit shores.

My treacherous friend I found.
And drove him, by degrees, into a pit woven
by pages of the Book.
Through time and space he fell, screaming.
Engulfed by my vision of sinful pride
and gluttonous joy. The flaming fire took us, and
together, in eternity, we burned.


2. TWO THOUSAND YEARS

Having fallen asleep one day, lulled into sweetest dream,
I awoke, prone, on the scorched earth of a desert. The sun
Beat down, burnt me. Blistered my skin.
I could not feel my legs. Could not move.
A wolf was at my side. She had devoured me.
Her fur was soaked with my blood.

Vultures perched on my hips and disembowelled me whilst I lay.
As they choked my intestines down, I turned to face my left,
Where I espied a divine light, come down from a cloudy sky.
And in that light I saw a figure of incandescence pure.
His feet never touched the ground. He bowed his head and spoke, as though praying for me.
But I could not hear His voice. The wolf had bitten off my ears.
Soon I could not see. The vulture had gouged out my eyes. And split my tongue apart.

And though parched, I eked out a laugh,
Thin, weak, strangled, defiant to the last.
Even as the flaming fire engulfed me.
And I arose on black wings, still blind.

My shadow fallen on the gallows tree
Where Iscariot's corpse slowly swung.
For He had abandoned this world to Evil.

His bones bleached and scattered to the wind.
Ground down into the dust of two thousand years
