Campfires sputtered and torches burnt out
Tools now rusted were falling apart
Buildings did groan as wood rotted away
Some nights in my dream I can still hear her say

You community flourished, your future was bright

I remember the dusk, kicked up from the chaos
It eddied through moonlight beams
Lost in confusion, I could not break free
From the terror that held me in place
Then an image of refuge lucid in mind
Gave me hope through the burgeoning screams
I dared now to run till I found my safe haven
Within the roots of an oak tree's embrace

All these years later I still hear her say

I lifted my eyes but was stunned when I saw
The shimmering standing before me
A pathway had opened leading me out
It glowed with the rising sun
