The band was founded as a side project in the Summer of 2003 by Jared Wilbur (Vocals), Aaron Cable (Drums), Nate Duckworth (Bass guitar) and Mike St. Hilaire (Guitar). 2004 Too Late the Hero released their first EP The Arming without a recording label. The first tour the band organized by themselves. The same year the group played first concerts in New England and their hometown area.

St. Hilaire left the band in Spring 2005 and was replaced by Nate Johnson who played in the band In The Arms Of Providence before. On March 6th, 2007 the group released their debut full-length album called Is This Thing On? and payed the costs of production on themselves.

In June 2009 the band released their second EP called The Revenge. The EP was produced by Josh Wilbur who worked together with Lamb of God, Haste the Day, Avenged Sevenfold and Atreyu. In August 2010 the group played first time in Mexico.

Today the group consists out of Josh Wilbur, Aaron Cable, Nate Duckworth and the two guitarists Jack Stolz and Kevin Billingslea. Too Late the Hero played concerts and festivals and shared stage with acts like Panic at the Disco, Anti-Flag, Dropping Daylight, Boysetsfire, People In Planes, Chiodos, Damone, Augustana, Name Taken, Bayside, As Tall As Lions, The Receiving End Of Sirens, Folly, Downtown Singapore, A Day to Remember, In Fear And Faith, A Skylit Drive, I See Stars, Attack Attack!, Dance Gavin Dance and Outsmarting Simon.

Nowadays the group signed a contract to The End Records (Anvil, The 69 Eyes, Lordi, Danzig). In April 12th, 2011 the band released their second studio album Statement of Purpose. Too Late the Tour started touring across the USA and Canada together with Memphis May Fire and Romantic Tragedy. In July the group shared stage with Vanna, Our Last Night, Us, From Outside and Texas In July.

The songs of the band was played in radio airplays in Maine and New Hampshire. The band was reviewed by Alternative Press and Outburn.
