biografía : Sven Gali

Often compared to Skid Row, Canada's Sven Gali released an excellent collection of hard rock before being sucked into the grunge revolution, and alienating their original fan base in the process. David Wanless (vocals), Dee Cernile (guitar), Andy Frank (guitar) and Shawn T.T. Mahar (bass) had formed Sven Gali around Niagara Falls, Ontario. With the addition of famed session drummer Gregg Gerson (who had worked with Billy Idol, Noisy Mama, Steven Stevens Atomic Playboys and many more) they were quickly snatched up by BMG Canada. The self-titled debut was an excellent slab of 80's heavy metal and managed to go gold in Canada on the strength of the singles "Under The Influence", "Tie Dyed Skies" and the huge ballad "Love Don't Live Here Anymore". The band toured all over Canada and Europe, generating a solid fan base. Gerson was replaced by Mike Ferguson prior to recording the follow-up. For Inwire the band had traveled into Seattle, the hometown of grunge music. With the help of producer Kelly Gray (Candlebox), Sven Gali managed to completely alter their sound; going from a killer hard rock band to a mediocre grunge group. The Sven Gali fans all but ignored the album, and the new market they were trying to reach failed to notice. Later that year Mahar left the band to pursue film production. A final lineup with Tom Beaton was short-lived as Sven Gali soon broke up for good. Wanless took some time off from the music industry before showing up as the front man in The Betty Ford Band. In 2001 Mahar re-entered the music scene with The Forgotten Rebels while Beaton is with Asylum.
