biografía : Spiral Tower

SPIRAL TOWER were founded in this line-up in 1997, but to take a closer look at the history of the band we haveto go back to the past a little further. Sven Podgurski (Guitars), Bernie Altmann (Bass) and El Zubosch (Drums) are already making music together for over 10 years - on that time together with Jörg Knittel and Gerrit Mutz - and could already cause some attention in 1992 with the first demo "Dreams of Perfection" of their band VARIETY OF ARTS. Because of their quite progressive musical style, they received very promising reviews in the press and were traded as the german follow-up to PSYCHOTIC WALTZ. Later the band decided to change their name into TRAGEDY DIVINE because they had changed their musical style to a more straighter sound and wanted to get rid of the PSYCHOTIC WALTZ comparisment. On that time they also made the second place on the Metal Hammer / Rockfabrik Bandbattle. TRAGEDY DIVINE recorded a demo in 1995 and did a successful shopping as they were signed by T&T/Noise Records. They released their debut-album “Visions Of Power” in spring 1996 - again the reactions of the press were very exciting and promising (a.o. 9,5 out of 10 points ROCK HARD) so that the future was looking good for the guys but as life is, things might change.

Later in 1996 the band quit because of musical differences and their singer Gerrit Mutz and the guitarist Jörg Knittel formed their own band SACRED STEEL, who already released 3 albums on Metal Blade Records and now have a deal with Massacre. TRAGEDY DIVINE were history at that moment but this was no reason for the 3 other guys who were left, to stop making music - they founded the band SPIRAL TOWER! They chose this name to give their tribute to that band which formed their sound so many years, even if the sound of SPIRAL TOWER has nothing to do with PSYCHOTIC WALTZ. In spring 1997 they completed their line-up with Andi K. on guitars (ex-PSYCHOTRON, ex-ICN) and finally found the right frontman and singer with Alex Koch (TWILIGHT).

Now that they had found the right line-up to unfold their musical power, they were especially proud of the unique voice of singer Alex which can now be proved on their smashing debut “Mindkiller”! Massacre Records had no doubt about the quality of the band and took them under their flag.Their debut album was recorded in June ‘99 at the Hartmann Studio in Hagen , Germany. They were produced by the Midas Twins (The Traceelords, Powergod) who really pushed the band to their limits and got the max out of them, which can impressionly be heard on tracks as “Messenger From God”, “On The Wings Of An Eagle”, “The Eyes Of The Blind”, “Execute In Excuse” or “Feel The Fears”. Melodic Power/Speed Metal from Germany has a new name: SPIRAL TOWER!!! The german and international reviews have been very positive and there should be a quite nice future for the band. As local support for METAL CHURCH in the Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg, SPIRAL TOWER were able to take some deep breaths of stage air and many concerts followed. In 2001 two coversongs have been recorded and were released on two Nuclear Blast compilations: Tribute to ABBA and ACCEPT.
