The Florida based death metal band Solstice was formed in 1990 by guitarist Dennis Munoz and drummer Alex Marquez with vocalist / guitarist Rob Barrett. In 1991 they recorded a demo produced by legendary producer Jim Morris. In 1992 their debut album "The Sentencing" was recorded but due to internal problems the band broke up the following year. In 1994 Munoz and Marquez played with a hardcore band called Anger and in 1995 Solstice was reformed with a new line-up. A second album was released but they soon disbanded once again. In 2000 Solstice was resurrected once again and they were working on material for a third album but it seems as if nothing came out of it.

According to the band, Solstice's current musical style is "more like the [self-titled debut from 1992] as opposed to 'Pray'. We originally wanted Rob Barrett [guitar] to do it but we know he is extremely busy with CANNIBAL CORPSE, so we didn't even ask. After a couple of months of digging around, we were able to find Rudes and he was into it so we went that way. He's an amazing player and his voice is super brutal now. We heard some songs he wrote, and wow, it was killer!"
