biografía : Septentrion (FIN)

Seven years have passed since the inception, in 1997, when the first concept of Septentrion was born in my mind. The road has been stony and altogether painful. Early on I contacted Lord Rasputin to play bass, who also promised to find a drummer; at one point he informed me that he had, but that fell through, as has so many things during these years. In a flux of uncertainty things had progressed to the autumn of 1999 till Ulfang had joined to play bass, to replace the recently departed Lord Rasputin, and Ulfang also contacted the excellent drummer Teemu to blast behind the kit. Moribundus had joined in 1998 as a second guitarist. Proper rehearsals with the full line-up were organised and 4 new songs were born in this fruitful but short winter, songs that bore the true bleakness and harshness of Septentrion in them, retaining the dark, ancient aura of elder Nights. But by mid-February, 2000, Ulfang left the band, and thus Septentrion also lost its rehearsal place and recording equipment and once again stood on thin air. In the latter part of 2000 I moved away and Septentrion was scattered, but I continued to write material for Septentrion. As time passed and the chances of revival for Septentrion grew less my interest also dropped. Finally in the September of 2001 I realized the old and new Septentrion material really captured what I have always intended in my music and decided to finish them by myself.

Iam cuncta astra in septentrionia mortua est

I wrote the missing lyrics and recorded the vocals using my own PC on top of the raw versions I had recorded during the composition process, in some cases years before. This "posthumous" demo containing 9 tracks, titled "Our Eternal Years", was never released, but it kept the flame burning until the return that was just around the corner.

Nox inremeabilis

In 2003 Septentrion was re-formed, with Ulfang behind the drums, Moribundus on the guitar and Cykranosh on vocals. War-Torn joined first to play the lead guitar, but left shortly thereafter, only to once again return to play the bass on the live gig at TVO, Turku, Finland on 17.10.2003. During the following winter we set upon the task of recording our first official demo release, titled "Ab Aeterno", with War-Torn again on the lead guitar; two different recordings were made, the first being scrapped altogether.
