Sanguinarius, originally from Bloemfontein, South Africa, is the 'Psychotic Black Metal' project of Anton van Niekerk. The project is mainly associated with the Black Metal genre. It is, however trying to create a feeling of insanity in the music thus calling it "Psychotic Black Metal", combining the dark melodic riffs of Black Metal with an eerie, mind altering sound.

Anton started playing and composing songs in 2003. By 2004 Anton started recording complete songs, playing all instruments himself. In 2005 "Sanguinarius" was formed and Anton was joined by Alta Louw in 2006 as the lyric writer, writing lyrics to themes given to her by Anton.

In 2007 the project gained international recognition when Anton joined myspace music managing Sanguinarius himself. Complete songs where uploaded and Sanguinarius quickly gained an international fanbase. Airplay, interviews and reviews around the globe followed. Anton recorded and finalized all the music for the debut album with lyrical contributions from Alta. The sound and style WAS complete...

The debut Sanguinarius album entitled 'Revelations' was complete and set for release on the 21st of June 2008, but this is no longer possible due to problems with the former lyric writer.

2008 will see the rise of a new Norwegian based Sanguinarius. Expect new recordings of the music with a new sound. The lyrics now written by Anton himself, will be disturbing to say the least.
