biografía : Sadom

Sadom was founded in 1983 by Adriano Lima in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil.

After a few short-lived trial formations the band´s formation stablized with Steve Redditt on bass and Vital Case on drums. This formation recorded the first album, released in 1991, entitled "Love and Death", now long sold out, rare, and available only in specialized shops for collectors. The style is unique but Adriano´s vocals are sometimes cited as resembling Celtic Frost or Sepultura. The guitar parts alternate between snarling, angry power lines and melodic sweetness. Steve played a deep, strong, throbbing underline together with Vital bringing down the heaviest arms in the business. Vital was known to wrap his fingers with surgical tape and for turning the drumsticks around to play with the thicker, heavier, rear end of the drumstick instead of the normal tips. This was because he broke all the tips off real quick.

The band was kicked out of several sleasy rehearsal studios for blowing amps and speakers, as well as thrashing the drumsets. "Too loud !! Too many people listening !! Too heavy !!" Oh well... Sadom finally found a place to rehearse regularly at B&Z studio in Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro. Old Bahau, the studio owner, loved the band and gave them big cuts in rehearsal-time fees for many years. Long live Bahau, patron of the underground!

In 1991 Sadom released their first album (on vinyl), "Love and Death", which was included for several years on the regular playlists of Fluminense FM as well as many other rock and roll and university radio stations across Brazil. A few records were sold here and there to stores in Europe and the U.S. The band played occasional shows on the underground circuit of Rio for many years, at places like The Garage (underground show house), The Cavern, and many others.

Marcelo Vianna played drums for a few years. In 1997 Sadom released a second album, called "Red Horizon" with Marcelo on drums, recorded shortly after Adriano´s mother left us.

Sadom lineup is now Adriano Lima on guitar and vocals, Pedro Tonini on bass and Alexandre Fersan on drums. The third album is "Tertius", released in 2005, presenting Sadom in top form with high-quality recording and mastering. This album has been selling well in Europe, especially in Denmark, where a local label has expressed interest in a European release.

A fourth album is now in the works, awaiting sponsorships to be recorded. Sadom has turned down several offers in the past because the producers wanted to change the band´s style and message. The members of Sadom are radical about keeping the integrity of their art, and have gained much respect for their attitudes.

A Sadom rehearsal was always a party and tons of friends would come by and bring a few beers. Still is and they still do. A Sadom show is an event not to be missed. Check it out. Get a Sadom record.
