biografía : Mortuary (SRB)

Band Mortuary was formed in the beginning of august 1990, under the name Brainwashers, but idea about band was much older.

After a few months, we decided to change it into already well known. In January 1991, we have entered studio Male Pcelice, later known as studio Cesnjak, and we have recorded our first demo tape called “Infected by Pollution” and it included four songs.

But as we were dissatisfied with production and with sound of Mortuary of that time we have entered, in April 1991, studio again and we have recorded six song demo. That demo was named “Dismembered Illusions”, and it included four songs from the first tape and two new ones. This tape had magnificent advertisement, and it passed very well at auditory in our home country and as well abroad.

After four months working pause, in September 1991, we have released the best material to that point “Void”, which included four tracks which are not only in production, than musically a real definition of Mortuary sound. otherwise, Mortuary with this material finally found real expression in music, and that music was, what is now called, old-school death-metal.

By that time, Mortuary have played many gigs with many great bands... what have supposed to be the brightest point of our career were few gigs with the biggest bands of that time Sepultura, Morbid Angel and Sadus. But all that was cancelled because war started just about that time and we all went to army.

We have managed to record “Unspoken”, in June 1993, and that was the end of Mortuary. Over 2.000 sold tapes, many gigs and very huge fan base tells that Mortuary was the very respected band of that time.

After band split, drummer went to Zvoncekova Biljeznica, guitar player had some grunge project, Both Legs Broken, and the other moved to Greece and then to Holland. Max started band called Dismissed and most recently Vilajet.

In 2003, Active Time Records (in co-operation with Butcher Sound) re-released remastered versions of whole material on CD & Cass... most recent, Max has gathered some friends to re-record song Corridors Of Banishment to celebrate 15 years of it... what will future bring no one knows...
