Formed in 1996, Lycanthia is a 6 piece metal band based in Sydney, Australia.
Lycanthia plays dark, aggressive and emotional metal, in a style that would be best described as a fusion of Doom, Classical, Rock and Goth.

The band"s self-titled demo "Lycanthia" was released in April 1997. The popularity of their live shows along with the demo established the band in the Australian Doom Metal underground. Lycanthia"s first full length CD "Myriad" was released independently in 1999.

Their latest single "Inferno" captures the essence of the sound the band has been crafting and refining through the years. Their new work sees the replacement of cello and flute with violin, streamlining their sound whilst creating greater strength and complexity. The promotional single featured on "Underearthed" (the Australian Underground Metal Compilation released by 2RRR and AMRAP) in 2002.

Lycanthia"s success has continued with radio airplay and numerous live performances at Metal venues and festivals. Their performance closed the night at Australia"s largest Metal music festival "Metal For The Brain" in 2001.

Lycanthia are now working on their follow up CD to Myriad.

Working closely and without the confines of a restrictive genre, Lycanthia have sculpted their reactions to existence and the world into a musical expression of harsh and bleak reality. Lycanthia is developing their musical style showing greater maturity, creativity and originality
