biografía : Immolation

In the late 80's a new disease was born in Yonkers, New York. It's name: Immolation.

In 1988, Immolation formed from the remains of Robert Vigna's and Tom Wilkinson's previous band, Rigor Mortis(NY-1986). The line-up was secured with the addition of Ross Dolan (bass/vocals) and Neal Boback (drums). Immolation released two studio demos including the songs "Immolation" and "Dawn of Possession", which gained them worldwide underground recognition and label interest. Immolation signed with Roadrunner in late 1990, which released the death metal classic "Dawn Of Possession" in 1991. Prior to the recording, the band had separated with their drummer, and found Craig Smilowski stepping into play session drums ultimately becoming a full time member. After touring the US and Europe, Immolation and Roadrunner Records mutually parted ways. Immolation immediately set out promoting themselves once again throughout the underground, further establishing their presence as a powerful live band. A new step was achieved when the band inked a deal with the signature label, Metal Blade Records. Immolation unleashed the devastating "Here in after" in 1996. Craig Smilowski left the band shortly thereafter and was replaced by ex-Fallen Christ drummer, Alex Hernandez. Five tours followed in support of "Here in after" which further broadened their devout fellowship. Immolation went back to the studio in 1999 to create the blasphemous "Failures for Gods" , and one year later saw the release of the brilliant "Close to the World Below", a special recording in the history of the band. On tour, the band was joined by Bill Taylor, former guitarist of Florida's Angel Corpse. 2001 saw the end to the Metal Blade collaboration, only to make way for a dual partnership with two new labels : Olympic records for North America and with the label of a long time friend, Listenable, for Europe. With new label support now in place, the band released the dark and furious, "Unholy Cult", on October 28 - recognized as the best metal release of 2002. An intensive tour across the US was followed by the European X-mass Festival. Immolation's first DVD, came out in limited release in Europe in 2004. The new year brings forth yet another ungodly release, Harnessing Ruin, to the masses, also marking the debut of new drummer Steve Shalaty.
