biografía : Disavowed

Dutch death-metal band Disavowed was formed in September 1994 under the name Nocturnal Silence. They immediately started writing their own material.

After several shows, their first demo "Into the Abcess" was recorded in 1995 of which, despite the poor soundquality, some 150 were sold. Having built up a worthy reputation in their region they recorded a second demo with a better production, "...and create a moonless sky", on which Joel Sta from Pyaemia did back-up vocals.

Shortly after these recordings the drummer, Maarten Winnips, decided to quit. A new drummer was soon found in Robbert Vrijenhoek, drummer of Pyaemia. Two months later, the lead guitarplayer, Dorus Neijboer, also decided to quit. Joel, who had become second vocalist, took his place. From then on Nocturnal Silence changed in style from melodic metal to more brutal and fast metal, still keeping some form of melody in their music by varying from raw, fast passages to more melodical, technical ones, to slow heavy ones.

In May '98 their 7-song promo-CD "Plateau"was recorded, which was well received by 'zines and death-metal fans. After this recording, Nocturnal Silence further evolved their musical style towards a more brutal one. It's maybe best described as a mixture of influences such as Suffocation, Vader and Cannibal Corpse.

In December '99 they recorded their 3-song promo-MCD "Point of few", just before guitarplayer Joel left the band. Because of all the changes in line-up and musical style they decided to continue under a different bandname : Disavowed.

With "Point of few" Disavowed got some really good reactions from labels. After being offered contracts by some well-established labels they chose to sign with American label Unique Leader Entertainment. After a period of extinsive writing, Disavowed recorded 9 ultra-brutal songs in the Excess Studio's. Disavowed's debut album was released in october 2001 and first responses are amazing.

After a long period of wrist injuries of the drummer, Robbe V, a temporally replacement was found in Dirk Janssen (Despondency) in mid 2005. After doing numerous regional shows Disavowed headed for Japan and Hong Kong in April 2006.

In May 2006 Romain Goulon (Agressor, Arsebreed) joined Disavowed as the new drummer. After doing summer festivals, Disavowed started the recording of Stagnated Existence, the successor of Perceptive Deception. Robbe K (www.audiovisualz.com) took the lead in the recording and production of the new album, with assistance of the well-known Excess Studios. This new album shows the growth of Disavowed musically, without compromising brutality and aggressiveness. Disavowed’s goal was to make a CD that is diverse, catchy, well produced and fast, and according to many reviewers these goals have been achieved. To promote Stagnated Existence, Disavowed joined Cannibal Corpse in March 2007 for a 5-week European tour. The energetic shows were received with great enthusiasm by the European crowds and fed Disavowed’s hunger for more shows and tours. As such, Disavowed will head to the Maryland Deathfest in May 2008, in the meantime various shows throughout Europe will take place.
