biografía : Dark Ages (BEL-1)

Dark Ages started out in April 1997 with Yannick (vocals & lead, rhythm, acoustic guitars) and Xavier Santens (battery & keyboard).

In the very beginning, Yannick and Xavier decided to play Black Metal since that music gave them the ability to express their dark feelings in a musical form.

In May '98 they finally found a suitable bass-player: Koen Vanassche.

Then after about one year they wanted to record their songs from the (very) early days, so they decided to release a demo. They faced a lot of problems in finding a suitable studio, due to financial reasons, but in November '98, their first demo Lux Mortis was recorded in a 16-track low-budget studio.

In May '99, after a very long search, the three Dark Ages members finally found a second guitarist: Glen Herman. This can be seen as the actual beginning of the band since they weren't complete before.

So, the current line-up was:
Yannick Santens: vocals & lead, rhythm, acoustic guitar
Glen Herman: rhythm guitar
Koen Vanassche: bass
Xavier Santens: battery

After a while the band decided the time was right to record a second demo entitled The Shadowdomain and it contains 23 minutes of Metal of Death. This time, the demo was recorded in the CCR - studio.

The Shadowdomain is a big step forward compared to the Lux Mortis demo. The production is much better, the songs are a bit faster and at the same time more melodic, but the aggression and darkness still remain in their music. Bands who have influenced Dark Ages the most are: Dissection, King Diamond, Satyricon,...

After a relatively calm period Dark Ages recorded some songs during the winter of 2002 for a forthcoming demo which will be released somewhere in 2003.

For now, this will be the last recording with our drummer Xavier Santens. He decided to leave the band during the summer 2002 since he wanted to perform live more often than Dark Ages did.
