biografía : Chakal

Chakal is a death/thrash metal band from Belo Horizonte. Founded in the early eighties, the band played an important role in building the Heavy Metal scene in Belo Horizonte. His old metal influences (Judas Priest, Van Halen and Black Sabbath) are already present in his debut in the compilation WARFARE NOISE (COGUMELO 1985). With the release of the album Abominable Anno Domini (COGUMELO, 1987), Chakal underlines its differential in relation to bands from Minas Gerais and begins to tread its career, selling out shows throughout Brazil and emerging as a great promise in the Brazilian heavy music scene. The album Abominable Anno Domini is still referred to by big names in world metal as a great classic of the 80's generation of South American metal. Vocalist Vladimir Korg's hate-screaming lyrics were harmonically balanced by Mark and Pepeu's guitars and Wiz's ferocious drumming. The apocalyptic scene of the lyrics of Abominable Anno Domini, mixed horror movies and the horror of a nuclear war, received very common in the cold war era and recurring theme in the main heavy metal bands at that time.
The 1988 EP LIVING WITH THE PIGS brought a fun and ironic cover in a 7” format: hungry wolves roast three little pigs, in a design that recalls children's comic figures. virtuous soils.
After a lineup change, with the departure of Vladimir Korg, Chakal releases an exquisite thrash metal album. In 1990, the album THE MAN IS HIS OWN JACKAL (COGUMELO), praised for the complex guitar work, the creative riffs and the extremely intelligent solos, abroad, critics celebrated the intelligent and original lyrics. The review ends by asking that Chakal's day come quickly for everyone's sake. This album also had good radio airplay in Europe.
In 1991 the band released DEATH IS A LONELY BUSINESS (an exquisite recording). There are death metal touches, but also a bit of exotic influences. The band continues with a great thematic and musical variation, always highlighting the virtuosic guitars. The lyrics, ironic and harsh, continue to be commented on by specialized magazines.
After a hiatus, Vladimir Korg resumes vocals with a script about the living dead in his hands, based on the Trilogy of the Dead by George Romero. Intending to make a kind of soundtrack for this script, Chakal reformulates and with Drews on Bass and Andrevil on guitars, they dive into a dense atmospheric metal that results in their most controversial work, DEADLAND, a concept album and whimsically crafted. graphically with multimedia tracks and appalling photos of the band turned into zombies. The cover features the magnificently made-up drummer Wiz. Mark does one of the few guest solos on the album. Several shows in Brazil and the critical acknowledgment of the band's triumphant return to the Brazilian metal scene, their prodigal son returns to the band: guitarist Mark. The band also has a new bassist, Giuliano Toniolo, who brought the band elements of characterization and unforgettable stage performance. bamda releases a historic album: DEMON KING ( COGUMELO, 2006). The album rages at political criticism mixed with satanism and irony. The lyrics prophesy things like "...and when the last pope of the old century dies, the era of the demon king will begin." And ironizes American society in an acidic way. The album received rave reviews and was considered a landmark album in the band's discography. Chakal had the opportunity to share the stage with big names in world metal like SLAYER, DESTRUCTION, SODOM and VADER,
2011 arrives then, and the band finds itself mature enough to enter the studio and record another work and with the responsibility of being the successor to the emblematic DEMON KING. The name of this album; DESTROY ! DESTROY ! DESTROY ! The album promises dark themes and horror landscapes.
