biografía : Al Azif

Al Azif means "the noise" or " the noise produced by the demons in the desert". It is also the Arabic name of the Necronomicon.

Al Azif was created in 1999 in the outskirts of Madrid, when Jose and Mario decided to get together and create a band inspired by the Heavy Metal classics. Along with Jose Alberto (ex-Asmodeus), Roberto L. (ex-Xeru) and Jorge Cortés (Currently in Steel Horse), they performed their first shows. Because they were not satisfied with the musical direction of the band, their members decided to dispense with Jorge’s services and look for a new frontman with a more aggressive voice. When Luismi joined the band, they began a new style of music, one with a much more raw sound, closer to the Thrash and Death metal genres, influenced by Carcass, Exodus, Nopresion, Testament or the early Sepultura albums.

In 2005, they launched their first demo, H.P.L., recorded in a very scarce way and with a very limited impact.

After replacing Roberto with Álvaro (ex-Absalom, 2006) on bass and Jose Alberto for R. Ortega (ex-Lágrima Negra, 2008) behind the drums, Al Azif’s sound intensified, reaching new levels of madness and brutality, much closer to what their members had always been aiming for. It was during this period (2006-2010), when the band experienced its busiest period of live performances, playing with bands such as Ewah, Negramagia, Jodío Loco Sucio, Rancor, Habeas Corpus...

During 2010 they recorded "La Nueva Plaga", their first serious approach to the musical world. This album has a more mature sound and highy professional artwork. In Al Azif’s current sound, we can find traces of the aforementioned styles, but blended with the influences of more extreme and even progressive bands, such as Mesuggah, Behemoth, Cynic, Nasum... This jumble of genres and influences, plus the deeply-held admiration for H.P. Lovecraft’s work, which has been a constant point of reference in the band’s lyrics, help to create a more tangled and primal style that we like to call Insane-Thrash-Death.
