Corey Todd Taylor (born December 8, 1973 in Des Moines, Iowa) is the lead vocalist and member #8 for the nine-piece metal band Slipknot, and a founding member and lead singer of Stone Sour.
Life and Career:
Corey began his music career performing with many bands in Des Moines, Iowa. Stone Sour was formed in the early '90s and became one of the biggest bands on the gradually growing Des Moines music scene. He was recruited by Slipknot as their lead vocalist with whom he got his biggest break, Slipknot got signed to Roadrunner Records in 1998. In 2000 Corey was approached by ex-Stone Sour band member Josh Rand with songs he had been working on, eventually they worked their way back to a near same line-up as the previous Stone Sour and in 2002 they released their self-titled album. With the help of Corey already being an established star, the revival Stone Sour was thought to be the end of Slipknot. This was not the case as they rejoined in 2004 to release their third album Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). Corey has said that Slipknot and Stone Sour are like children to him, it would be unfair to pick a favourite, and he enjoys being a part of both of these bands. In 2006 Stone Sour returned with their second album Come What(ever) May an album which brought about even more recognition to Stone Sour and established them as more than just a Slipknot side project.
Corey also has two cover bands, Audacious P and Dum Fux, the first of which is mostly a Tenacious D cover band. He has performed a spoken word section in progressive metal band Dream Theater's 2007 album Systematic Chaos. Corey has also contributed vocals to several bands including Damageplan, Soulfly, Snot's memorial album for Lynn Strait of Snot, and worked with emerging metal band Slitheryn on the track "Lost".
Corey contributed vocals to the Finnish Cello-Metal band Apocalyptica on the single "I'm Not Jesus". He also contributed to the Soulfly song "Jumpdafuckup". Taylor planned on contributing to thrash metal band Anthrax's latest untitled album, but due to Taylor's other projects, conflicts with their schedule emerged and Taylor will now be contributing to only a few songs instead of the entire album, as originally planned. Taylor is currently signed to Roadrunner Records. Taylor credits Korn, Black Sabbath, Mötley Crüe and Kiss among others as his favourite bands. Taylor writes a monthly column for the UK rock music magazine Rock Sound. Recently, Taylor has been confirmed to be the producer for Walls of Jericho's new EP. A song from this EP is now available on Walls of Jericho's record label site Trustkill. The song is called 'Ember Drive'.
Personal Life:
Taylor grew up in poverty, raised by his mother. He didn't meet his father until he was 32, but the two eventually built a strong relationship. Taylor is now divorced from his long-time wife, Scarlett, with whom he fathered a son, Griffin. Taylor has many related tattoos of them on his body.
