That's right, my friends, grindcore! Well, that or death grind or grind death, but certainly not deathcore by the collective definition of deathcore! Too fast, breakdowns are very energetic and fast(faster than most breakdowns, that is), the songs are short. Grindcore, I say!

This album has a distinct sound. Bass overload! Drums basically control the entire ep. Very fast, amazing drumming but it does consume the guitars a little. The guitar noise that I can hear is quite good. It keeps up with the drums while adding technicality. There are actually one or two times where you can hear the bassist. Nick, the vocalist, has very nice range. His range includes: guttural lows, squealed lows, more mid ranged inhales and highs. The sounds compliment the very low, bass sound of the surrounding instruments. The album could use a little treble to calm down the strong bass overtones, but I can't complain.

The first track, The Need Not Needless, starts out nicely and is a very good opener for the album. It keeps a constant high pace and it has a very nice, short breakdown at the end. The one flaw is that it basically only uses Nick's gutteral low and low squeal vocals. I'd love to hear a little more range.

Sentience is a pure grindcore song. It's under 90 seconds, has relentless pace, it mostly uses the mid ranged inhales. A great pure grindcore/death grind song.

Subjugate is the only song on the album over three minutes. It starts out with a good guitar hook. Maybe it could have been a more technical riff and it would've been better. It's the first song to have any highs in it and it uses them in taste. The last minute gets a little slow and could be seen as a deathcore part. One of few deathcore sections of this album.

Insomnia is my personal favorite song. It is very energetic and fast. There's a great energetic breakdown near the end. It's definitely the best Misericordiam song out there, in my opinion.

Primitive Thinking for Alternative Living was another strong song. One criticism is that the beginning sounds a tad alike to the beginning of The Need Not Needless. The song has a good, short bass solo just after the opening sections. If it was more technical, it would have added more than it did. It seems like it was a bass solo for the sake of having a bass solo.

Finally, Double Penetrated Debate. A song about the abortion debate. It's a good, strong, energetic song. I don't know if I'd put it last, though. It leaves the listener wanting more because it stops so suddenly. Other than that, it's a very strong song and one of my personal favorites.

Overall, 17/20. Very nice album. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes grind genres, death genres or very heavy, raw metal.
