Three songs of this new EP of the British band show you the different sides of
Angst. It’s actually really good if the demo record can show to everybody that its author is capable to think in different ways.
Angst definitely consists of talented musicians, but maybe they are too much high on their favourite bands and they have to work on the vocals much harder.
“Cruise Liner” is energetic rhythmic heavy metal piece with nice guitar work. It can remind you
Devin Townsend and
Metallica in some moments. It’s quite good and interesting song that you can listen to many times, but a bit rough and raw and lacks something, it leaves behind a feeling that one more step – and this song could be a hit. Still it shows the band’s good taste.
“Running” is amazing but too short midtempo song; maybe some can call it ballad. It’s sincere smooth melodic and touching piece with great vocal work and terrific guitar solo. This song can be recommended for every rocker while other two songs are more specific.
“
Darkness Rising” starts with beautiful piano and guitar intro and continues in hard and heavy metal tone, again with some good guitar riffs and solos and hints at
Metallica. This song seems a bit lengthened out (although it’s less than 6 minutes), but the amazing guitar solo in the end atones for it. Unfortunately the very end of the “
Darkness Rising” is blurred, so it’s unclear: did this darkness rise or what?
I’d say that this band is able to compose something worth attention, but this EP is just attempt to create something big. Well, good luck, boys!
