Here we have the second act of the great modern metal play about the war – war inside the human’s soul. Just a year after the successful debut Russian band
Faktor Straha (
Fear Factor) continues themes that stroke a deep chord in the hearts. Maybe here the aggression of the war and melody of the soul and lyric of suffer are combined even better that before.
“Act II” really differs from “Act I”. It’s hard to say if it’s better or worse, it’s just different, it was made in a bit different way, although both albums are definitely kept in the same music style: “Act II” is also a mix of thrash metal, melodic death metal and maybe heavy metal moments. Some can say that “Act I” is more thrash metal, and “Act II” is more melodic death, simply more melodic and it’s more into human’s soul. On the other hand, others can say that “Act II” is more pop, more straight, and more catchy. Here you’ll find growling, harsh and clean male vocals and a lot of melodies.
And of course catchy choruses that you’ll sing along with the band. Most of songs are midtempo, but very rhythmic, intense and powerful, so you even don’t notice that tempo is not very high. Rhythms change during the songs, one thick guitar riff changes another catchy riff and keyboards add the depth to this picture, and this music takes all your attention, you will forget any boredom. Also there are a couple of a kind of ballads – “Expelled” and “Being Himself”.
This music definitely can find a lot of fans, because it’s well written, well recorded, it’s very emotional and very interesting. It’s like a mosaic. Every single phrase, every vocal line, every solo or riff is a little piece and you can hear that it’s beautiful, and all together they show a terrific and gorgeous picture. Almost everyone can find something here, a piece of the soul, a reflection of the inner battle. These songs will tell you that we can’t know the future, but the entire world is ours forever and each one of us has its unique future.
And words are forceless when the war and its aggressive emotions rule everything.
And too often we don’t see what happens around, that our angels may be near and wait for us…
On the “Act II” the band has some great guests: Vladimir Ermakov and Dmitrij Borisenkov (both from the band
Black Obelisk) and Maksim Samosvat (
Epidemia,
Mechanical Poet).
And some bass lines were recorded by
Oliver Holzwarth (
Sieges Even, Demons &
Wizards,
Blind Guardian).
And as a surprise the last song “P.S.” has the same chorus than the first song of the “Act I”, “Turning to
Dust”. As the author of the lyrics, mastermind of the band Konstantin Seleznev commented this song, some souls are white and good, others are black and bad.
And so they have different paths after the death.
And this song is about soul that turned to dust and didn’t get in anywhere… He is a poet, isn’t he?
