Leaning more towards Goth than
Metal, this sample of
Kittencadaver’s efforts falls in that particular category where gothers would feel more comfortable with, than, say, fans of
Paradise Lost or early Theatre of
Tragedy. This Florida-based band consists of two (Female vocals and her All-music partner) making their music to be based heavily on electronic sounds. It’s not EBM we’re talking about here but the use of drum-machines and keyboards is obviously their core; a common situation amongst bands of this style. The guitar is not absent and colors the songs with some nice riffs and melodic
Hard-Rock (!) orientated solos. The songs show some variety, ranging from the Pop tempos and attitude of “Razorblades and Fairytales” to the darker and repetitive industrialized sounds of “Sick/
Out There” or the metallic-flavored “Scar Crossed Lovers”.
Image-wise, they’re a typical example of mistreated dolls, dark sex, lost innocence kind of stuff; something reflected in the lyrics and titles. Musically it’s nothing that we haven’t heard before, but it’s done in a nice way and the duet respects their time, as well as ours. I wouldn’t mind one of their songs being played in a Goth-club but, at the same time, I wouldn’t rush to the DJ to ask what it is. Nevertheless, it’s a fair beginning the one they’ve made.
