They keep getting better and better

Feed Her To the Sharks is a perfect example of an underrated band. There are lots of them out there, and it is really a shame that these guys aren't more popular. Principally because it's hard to not like these guys once you've heard them and that is especially true with their latest album that was recently released. The album Fortitude is without a doubt the best album these guys have released so far. The Beauty of Falling (their first album) wasn't bad on its own, and Savage Seas, though it was a little short, was an even better album, probably getting a 17/20. Fortitude surpasses both of them just purely on how heavy it sounds.

The first song "The World Is Yours" is a good way to start off the album it's a fast paced heavy track that sets the tone and gives you an idea of what the rest of the album is like.. They follow it up with their latest single "Chasing Glory" the lyricism of this song is really strong, Andrew, the lead singer, sings about chasing your dreams, crushing every obstacle in your path, it’s great workout music. "Burn the Traitor" and "Shadow Of Myself" are next, and just based on the names you can tell these two songs rip it. Shadow Of Myself is especially good as Andrew stops screaming a little more than usual and you hear his voice as the guitars slow it down to a more melodic tone, and Andrew's voice fits the music perfectly. Track #5 is called "Terrorist", I dedicate this song to ISIS... Enough said. Then we come to Tracks 6 & 7 are where the album shines the most "Heart Of Stone" touches on the topic of suicide and, like Shadow Of Myself there is a lot of melodic singing on this track "I've burned every bridge I know, I won't look back. Turned every heart to stone, would you forgive me for all my wrongs? Would you release me from chains and thorns? And there is one thing that you should know: If I could go back again I'd change it all, with no regrets." I can't get those lyrics out of my head. "Walking On Glass" is the shortest song in the album but what makes this song so special is the guitar work. There are some sick riffs in this song, think Slayer riffs meets Arch Enemy riffs. Hard to imagine? Listen to the song and it will make sense. "Fear Of Failure" is actually a track that was on The Beauty of Falling and apparently the band liked that song because they threw it on this album re-mastered. The song is alright an improved version of the old one.

But there is no such thing as a perfect album, and yes Fortitude is no exception, on tracks 9 & 10 the album really takes a step backward. Faithless track number 9 starts out alright but when Andrew tries to sing melodically this time around, it doesn't work because the guitars are still fast and the drums are still pounding hard, but Andrew is trying to sing in a slow pace and it makes the song sound awkward, as if someone is playing their part wrong. Plus the lyrics are nothing special either so you can skip over this one. Badass unfortunately is even worse. Badass might sound like a great title, but the song is terrible. Why? Because of the theme of the song, it's a song about being THE badass, and the life of the party, having fun, and being the toughest guy in the world, that's all well and good but that is not what the theme of the album overall. It's kind of like Disturbed's "Living After Midnight" that came off the The Lost Children album. That song seemed so out of place and didn't really seem that great altogether. Badass is pretty much the same thing. Thankfully the mediocre shit ends and the last track "Let Go" comes on... I'm not sure what to say about this song, it's definitely the best track on this album, it might be the best track made by Feed Her To the Sharks. It's an amazing song better than "Memory of You" from their previous album. The song is 5 minutes long and I was loving every part of it, it's similar to Heart Of Stone x3! I'm not sure how else to describe it, it was an amazing piece of work and a great way to finish of Fortitude.

Feed Her To the Sharks have only been getting better and better throughout their career. So again I wish these guys were more popular because they deserve it. Still though, if you happen to be in your local music store and notice Feed Her To the Sharks on the shelf be sure to pick up Fortitude. Odds are you'll like it.
