This album to me is an absolute rare gem. Very under rated and pretty unheard of and yet it's so beautiful and mesmerising and dark and very unique.
It's obviously gothic dark ambient, but it's not dark ambient as in lots of electro noise or a sugary sweet female vocalist whispering over the top of a melancholy piano and acoustic guitar, Arkane moves away from the cliche Gothic ambient and gives something much more sinister and seductive,nightmarish, yet weirdly relaxing.
Unlike alot of Gothic ambient, Arkane don't rely on the fairytale medieval imagery and young female vocalist standing infront of a misty castle ruin wearing a black dress. Arkanes musicians presence (or lack of)is very minimul and there's a sence of secrecy about them. Hiding behind Venetian carnival masks or blurred shadowy image, there is something almost occultish about this, and like the ancient city of Venice, it has a haunting aire of dark elegance to it.
Each track mainly consists of a female vocalist who delivers an operatic performance. But the incredible thing is she rarely actualy sings in it. Her performance is mainly used as a choral sound rather than spoken words to create a dark ghostly echo. Musically the instrumentation is orchestral or Harpsichord sounding, and other ambient effects. There is however,a male narrator who occasionally makes an appearance in some tracks. Personally this is the only thing that I could deduct points for as I don't think it's a neccassery thing to have in it as the rest of the music does such a great job, and it reeks abit of typical ambient, which the rest of the music isn't. Still,the male part in this doesn't detract from the rest of the music.

Packaged in a nice A5 Digipack too. A great release. I hope they keep it up.
