Good idea, bad execution.

There are two ways to do symphonic/classic Black Metal. Firstly either use a damn good keyboard system, or secondly use real instruments. Angizia tried to pull off symphonic operatic black metal by using real classic instruments......and maybe they shouldn't have. Because what we've ended up with is a sound of two albums, of two genres running side by side, but not of the same quality.

Don't get me wrong, the classical side of this is good. And that's the problem. This is supposed to be a metal album, but the metal side of it is weak and sucks, it is actually the undertone of the album.

As for the classical music, it consists of a lot of wind instruments, pianos, strings, and clearly sung vocals. With a bit of soft amateur opera, and fair play to them, it sounds OK. It's a very chirpy sound, and sounds almost like an opera society tea party. But paired up with what can only be described as ultra weak bleak metal (which isn't a chirpy genre), it's not a good mix. It's not like the classical music comes and goes in bursts, it's actually the metal side of it that comes and goes in bursts.

When the Black metal does play along side the Classical music, it tries too hard to be in time, which results in a very 'plod plod plod' sound. The drums play to the piano rhythm, the guitar plays to the drums. The guitar is very low, fuzzy, and simplistic. The vocals are an annoying Burzum rip off, and the drums are a simple rhythm that changes constantly along with the piano.

It's no wonder that Angizia binned off their black metal sound, on up coming releases.

I think you shouldn't take it as Black Metal and that's fine :-)
Consider it more as avant-guarde Metal with dark & classical touches and that's just beautiful :-)
