Whoah, I feel like I just got transported back to 1985. Trust me this is a good thing though. Careless embodies that old school heavy metal vibe. It’s like re-living your teenage years but not have to go through all that shit of being a teenager. Nice right?! Just remember what is was like the first time you listened to a Maiden or Kiss album, this is kind of what “Coalition” is like. These guys aren’t new to the metal scene though, having met in college back in the 80’s and both being music majors, James Collins and Walt Kosar knew it was just meant to be so they went on to recruit Kosar’s high school buddy Nolan Ayers to play bass as well.

The structure of each track is easily a call back to the days of eighties power metal with Collins giving a stellar performance on vocals with some old school metal screams. “D.F.M” carries an Iron Maiden-esque influence followed by “Out of Control” that carries some killer guitar riffs and incredible solo from Kosar. “As Time Passes” is a nice interlude with some acoustic guitar that gives the album a peaceful vibe before settling back into delivering some powerful metal to us with “Blackened Walls of Freedom”.

Those who come from the days when bands like Maiden, Priest, Kiss, and Dio ruled the metal scene (well they still do) then you will want to definitely check out Careless and their self-released album, “Coalition”. They deliver a strong performance and hopefully can continue on with their future albums!
