Biography : Wodenson

Wodenson was first conceptualized in late 1998.After I had been Asatru for about 2 and a half years I decided to use some of my talents as a musician to contribute something to the Asatru community at large. I started writing songs for the first album (The Raven Flies Northward) sometime after Winternights 98 and purchased a 4 track recorder and got to work. By the time that Yule had arrived I had the album finished…. though something still seemed to be missing, sound quality. The quality of the 4 track recorder I learned was well, substandard. And so for the time being I made the best of it and went on. I started writing songs for the second album still using the infernal machine. In mid '99 I purchased a digital channel recorder. I was completely amazed. It was as if I left the Stone Age to directly thereafter enter the Space Age. I immediately began work recording the second album (Nine within the Tree). By early 2000, I had all of the songs recorded and purchased a CD burner and released the CD. In the year 2002 we decided it was time to start another album and within a couple of months Northlands was finished, This CD was somewhat of a departure from our previous works. Northlands had much more aggressive music and sound. Wodenson is in essence a one man band. I play all the instruments (guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards), and do all of the vocals. As well I write all of the music and the greater majority of the lyrics. On The Raven Flies Northward, I wrote all the lyrics and on Nine Within The Tree I wrote all the lyrics except for one and one half of the songs, which my Brother- in-law Thomas Thurston (who is also Asatru) co-wrote the lyrics for. Thomas wrote more lyrics for Northlands as well. In 2003 I moved to Texas and began collaborating with Swain Wodening. We started writing songs, and in a couple of months had created what I think is our best album to date. Thunder Drums was a combination of the styles of the previous two CDs. More of a technical style of playing but not so much toward the speed metal genre. Charles D. Wodenson
