V-Mob formed in 1997 after singer Jason Raleigh and keyboardist Marcus Jordan split from the Cincinnati Metal group, Inrage.
Since then, they've become one of the city's best heavy acts.
The group's hard-to-the-core sound is exhibited brilliantly on Equilibrium, a relentless five-song disc that relies on syncopated guitar riffing, a thumping rhythm section, crafty vocals and esoteric keyboard and sample ornamentation, which lends the music a creeping undertow.
While rage seems to be the main thrust behind V-Mob's music, the band doesn't wail aimlessly.
The music and songs are admirably intricate, and the band gets quite creative on several tracks, from the skilled, clever guitar work to the plush melodic hooks that slink in and out between the shouts. Standout cut "4-Days" brings together all of the band's strong suits in to one song, sonically building from a simmer to full boil with an airtight grace that is essential to all heavy Rock acts.
V-Mob's pounding grind and artful approach suggest an almost telepathic bond between the musicians.
The end result is endlessly captivating.

V-Mob is one of those great examples to beginning bands of how to build up a following; play every show you can and pour your soul into every one of em.
Of course none of that helps if you suck and that is where the importance of their first CD comes in.
We all know that they have a blistering, punch in the face kinda live show but do they stack up when you are home or chillin in your car?
I can honestly say that the evil little bastard inside me still wanted to start doing spinkicks on the sidewalk on my first listen.
On a down side, this doesn't really do much to elevate them above the myriad Slipknot clones…we've all heard the angry scream-rapping thing plenty by now and the chunky drop-d thing is pretty played out. At the same time though, they are still effective at it and the newer stuff I have been hearing is promising.
Better than much that you'll hear on the radio but not as innovative as many other locals, I am ambivalent on this so make up your own mind.
