Biography : Unholy Inquisition

Formed in autumn 2001 by Insanus (then member of Gorthaur's Wrath and founder of Castrum), Unholy Inquisition was intended to be a side project, but grew to be something far more. Within a few days, the first line-up was gathered. Although almost none of the members had musical experience, the band was led forward by their common interest in extreme music. Musicwise the early days of the band could have been described as raw and primitive black metal. With that line up UI played their very first gig at a local demo band contest called Ri-Rock and won the second place. After two more gigs, in January 2002 the debut demo called «Devils Disciples» was recorded.

After some lineup changes and a few more gigs in mid 2002 UI records the second demo «On the darkened side». Technically far more mature and somewhat more demanding, the material impressed quite a few people. Among those were the guys of Infaustum who invited UI to play on Croatia's biggest underground metal festival called «Od oluja mrzitelja». UI was also invited to play a couple of gigs in Slovenia. In Ljubljana UI played probably their best gig with that line-up on the «December frost» festival in the Metelkova club.

Although being unable to find a suitable vocalist, the band continued to make large steps forward in their musical evolution. Combining various metal styles and having the guitarists take over the vocal duties, UI composed eight new tracks. The preparations were finished and the band entered the well known «Dungeon Studios». The result was the highly acclaimed third demo album entitled «Depraved God's Creation». With the recording of DGC finished, the band began promoting their new release throughout Croatia and Slovenia, making noteworthy appereance on the first Metalcamp festival in 2004, as well as the 7th «Od oluja mrzitelja» festival, and numerous other shows.

In October 2005 Amphirion decided to leave the band due to personal reasons. With time passing by, UI began rehearsing and writing new material as well as searching for a suitable bass player. Ivan Grozni (then member of Rumple, Czaar, & Gorthaur's Wrath) joins the band as full time member taking over the bass duties. By the end of 2006, and with the full lineup now complete, six new songs were written. Once again, UI enters the infamous «Dungeon Studios» ready to record their 4th opus entitled «Shades of Inferno». Consisting of six new songs, two re-recorded songs and one cover, the new material is more brutal, technical, intense and musically far more mature than the previous releases.
