Biography : Psychofagist

[ B I O G R A P H Y ]

Novara, North-West of Italy … 1999 a.d.

The band was born when the founder members Stefano (guitars and vocals) and Marcello (bass and vocals), approached to the extreme scene through a technical and furious death metal. Only after 3 years, in 2002, with a new drummer (Bizza) they recorded the first demo: a 3 track Promotional-cd which helped them to spread their music all over italian and european underground scene; the sessions went on 5 and 6 april 2002 (first day for recording, second to mix the songs) at the Rockhattle Music Studio in Cavallirio (NO), helped by the ultra-low-frequencies growls of Conra, which left the band immediately after the recording.
Some live gigs and some good reviews have been the point of departure of a serious experience. During summer, the drummer left the band for personal and musical reasons; Psychofagist didn't replace him, so between 2002 and 2003 a new way about composition started: brand-new songs were ready and Psychofagist decided that it was the moment to record a competitive work.
It was a period of hard work, founded on arrangements, restyling and drum-programming of new riffs, surely much more grinding and axphyxiating than the old ones.
Masakatsu from the Japanese Amputated Vein Records was proud to produce a Psychofagist work … Karl and Hybrid Viscery, good friends of ours, had some tracks to record after the “bestial” demo-cd “Army of Pussy Land” and we decided all together to release a split cd.
“SELFLESS SPITE” was out on the last days of april 2003 under Amputated Vein and supported by the most important underground distros: it sounds like a match between violent-schizoid and breathless brutal-death metal versus the sickest and most amazing grindcore.
At the end of summer 2003, the drummer Fiamma joined Ste and Cello: new compositions sound much more post-core and brutal-grind oriented, and the complete line-up allowed to re-tread the stages: during the first half of 2004, the band played many gigs across Italy, Switzerland and Slovenia together with Natron, Cropment, Cripple Bastards and Mastic Scum and in the meantime the contacts with the labels went on; after months spent to find a good understanding and to compose new songs, Psychofagist decided to sign a deal with the brand-new italian label SUBORDINATE PRODUCTIONS & DISTRIBUTION. In the next July, the three maniacs will cross Europe to play live in Obscene Extreme Fest (Trutnov, Czech Republic) and to record the first full-length album in Starstruck Studios (Copenhagen) with Anders Lundemark (Konkhra) as producer.
