Biography : Ominous (SWE)

OMINOUS was formed in Malmo, Sweden, 1991. The line-up was hard to find, like always, and took a couple of years to really establish. On the quest for world domination it was decided that honesty, musicality and an iron team spirit would be the right formula for reaching the collective goal.

Soren, guitar, was not in the original line-up but was asked to join the band in 1993. With his distinct style and ambition a new band took form. The first demo was recorded early 1994 and paved the way for new standards. Skill and technique became of the essence, and to make OMINOUS complete new members had to be recruited.

Johan, guitar, joined the band 1994. He was a natural choice for the band as he too had the burning urge to venture deep into the mysteries of music.

The second, and most important, demo was recorded in 1995 in Berno studio in Malmo. The demo, “Sinister avocation”, got really great reviews and was considered truly promising. Nothing happened though...

This was a real blow and until now the band had a singer showing a lot of talent, but now he lacked the inspiration and commitment and had to be replaced. Replacement was found in Anders, who had both the vocal range and the will to make the contribution.
𘹭 a new recording was made, for promotional purposes only. Some deals was presented but never signed. One track was, later that year, recorded for a Japanese compilation album (Ironic –97).

Due to personal problems the drummer had to leave the band and a new drummer was found in Thomas, an incredibly good drummer, a hammer-man with the unique skills to add the final touch to the music and further improve the bands sound and style.

To include this new touch to the music, the band made a new recording and the breakthrough was close. OMINOUS was offered a deal and booked the eminent Abyss studio and recorded their debut album. This company turned out to be a fraud leaving the band and the producer with an unpaid master. OMINOUS begun to search for a new and serious label and through the producer, Tommy Tagtgren, Holy Records was contacted and finally a serious and powerful alliance came into existence.

The bass-player suddenly decided to prioritize his family so the latest member to join the band was bas-player Dan, who came of interest to the band as he had that extra intensity and skill they sought.
