Biography

Oblivion Sacrifice emerged in 2019 from the creative mind of Kazuki Sato, a guitarist from Osaka (born March 7, 1989), who envisioned a band that blended the crushing force of heavy metal with the dark romanticism of seafaring legends. Inspired by maritime folklore, naval warfare, and the mythologized brutality of pirate history, Kazuki sought musicians capable of delivering both theatrical atmosphere and unrelenting metallic intensity.

The first to join him was Sakura Yoshida (born December 28, 1998, in Saitama, Japan), a prodigy guitarist and one of the founding members of the band Hagane. Sakura’s melodic precision and commanding stage presence helped define the band’s early identity—balancing swashbuckling aggression with symphonic flourishes.

For nearly two years, Kazuki and Sakura performed as a duo, crafting the shipwreck-haunted sound that would become the hallmark of Oblivion Sacrifice. Their studio work culminated in the release of their debut album Blackbeard Sails at Night (2020), a record that introduced their signature blend of theatrical pirate metal, soaring harmonized guitars, and story-driven songwriting.

In 2021, Kyoto-born keyboardist Miyamoto Emiko (born October 5, 1993) joined the crew. Her ethereal synth textures, classical sensibilities, and atmospheric arrangements expanded the band’s sonic depth, adding a supernatural aura to their nautical themes.

The following year, Oblivion Sacrifice strengthened their rhythm section with American drummer Tim Klee (born March 8, 1986, in Charleston, South Carolina). Known for his thunderous, cannon-like playing, Tim’s commanding percussion brought the band a more aggressive, battle-ready sound.

2023 marked a turning point with the arrival of two new members:

Malakai Jones (born August 17, 1989, in Portland, Oregon), a vocalist celebrated for his roaring, theatrical delivery and gritty emotional power.

Wi Mee-Kyong (born May 12, 1996, in Seoul, South Korea), a skilled bassist whose dark, commanding tone and precise rhythm work completed the band’s modern lineup.

With the full six-member roster solidified, Oblivion Sacrifice released their second full-length album, Echoes of the Gallows, a darker and more cinematic chapter in their ongoing saga. Featuring multiple vocalists and expanded instrumentation, the album explored themes of betrayal, cursed voyages, supernatural judgments, and the violence of the open sea.

Today, Oblivion Sacrifice stands as one of the rising forces in the pirate metal landscape. Their dynamic stage personas, intricate dual-guitar harmonies, atmospheric keyboards, and emotionally driven vocal performances have earned them a cult following across Japan, Korea, and the United States. Blending myth, metal, and maritime storytelling, the band continues to carve its name into the mast of the global metal scene.
