NONOIA is a Danish psychedelic hardcore band. Founded by drummer Nona and guitar player Deep Lapp, both Danes, NONOIA is a project rooted in crazy perfectionism.
By the end of 2021, Nona asks his long-time Franco-British friend ViK to take over the vocals and record two razor-sharp tracks with a brutal technical death metal side, somewhere between Meshuggah and Deicide, already with an industrial edge à la Fear Factory. Orange Daddy and Generic Hostile Rigmarole were released in 2022.
Fast forward to 2 years later, in 2024, when the band uncovers the first track of their upcoming EP. In the interval, the Danish/Swedish bass player Space Mike has joined the band. The song Attaboy 69 sets the tone for an EP whose musical freedom is matched only by its technical tightness and excellent production.
Not unworthy of the “Free Metal” tag - as far as tags are needed -, NONOIA’s new sound is both modern and borrowing from all sorts of musical horizons, with a deliberately “old school” touch. Still definitely metal, and at least as exhilarating as the first two tracks of 2022, the 2024-2025 offering borrows as much from hyper-pop as from hxc/hip-hop or rave, with catchy melodies and wild electro sounds, while still keeping a punk spirit, which the very Jackass-inspired videos illustrate a little too well!
A skillful blend of influences from bands as diverse as Ozric Tentacles, Die Antwoord and the Beastie Boys, or Atari Teenage Riot, Crystal Castle and Devin Townsend. Hovering over a dense web of asymmetrical bars, polyrhythms and crude & fat metal riffs, the vocal parts are highly varied, unscrupulously and unapologetically moving from growl to scream and from rap to pop.Source : Adapted from a presentation made by ViK, the band's singer.
