Biography : Nocturnal Sun

Nocturnal Sun began in approximately 1990 with the writting of the same titled song by Michael Nielsen. It began as his solo recording project and through time evolved into one of the top performing and recording projects in the area.

Michael recorded a collection of songs and decided to add another flavour to the music and eventually, several years later, brought in Dustin Polsfut to add lead guitar and solos to the mix. Some of their ealier recordings can be found on the extant cd Seizmic Anomale which they released in the late 90s. They then expanded the lineup to include Derek Cooper on drums and Kevin Hilmoe on bass so that they could perform their music live. This led them to capturing the Swift Current annual band wars championship as well as another CD release entitled Zero Sun Live (extant) which was recorded live at a Cancer benefit entitled Relay for Life.

Several years and songs later Dustin, Kevin and Derek all went their seperate ways and Michael brought in Greg Vachon and Rorie Dickie to fill the vacancies. Together they performed songs such as Zero and 5. This was not to last as Rorie moved away and Greg went onto his own successful solo project that led him to rank in the top honours of Living Sky Idol.

Michael then teamed up with bassist Shane Burton and at a Megadeth concert he recruited Arin Meszaros in the lead spot to join their collaboration of musical assault upon the unknowing and unprepared.

Greg introduced them to Dana Schindel, a percussionist, completing the lineup. Shortly after Shanes life took him in a different direction and Michael called upon a thrash metal guitarist aquaintance, Anthony Sather, to pick up the reigns on the bass.

With anthony in the lineup Nocturnal Sun began a streak of performances and with the help of Dave Lang, The Saskatchewan Arts Board and The Lyric Theatre began recording their album, Burning Alive.

In early 2010 Nocturnal Sun unleashed a triad of recordings as an EP from the album which was successfully distributed across Canada via CD Plus stores and released on Itunes and other world wide online media distribution services.

Dana then decided to move away for work purposes and although returned for rehearsals decided that the proper and resposible thing to do was resign from the lineup due to other commitments. The band then decided to commence rehearsals with Rorie Dickie as he had recently moved back into the area. This led to the decision to not release the Burning Alive album as an official release but to post releases from it online for our fans and concentrate on the myriads of new material that had been written.

In a nutshell, that brings us to the present where the new album has been begun and we wrap up old sessions.
