Biography : Nattsvargr

The evil roots of Nattsvargr date back to the Autumn of 1999. Noctir (vocals, bass), Sin (guitars) and Magnus (drums) formed under the name Nocturnal Abyss and recorded the "At One With Evil" demo/rehearsal. The music was greatly influenced by 80s bands such as Bathory, Slayer, Venom, etc. Sin was responsible for writing most the music while Noctir wrote all lyrics. After a few live gigs, Sin would disappear for many months, around October 1999, only to reappear the following summer. Several more songs were written and rehearsed, with a few additional live gigs, until Sin disappeared again, once and for all. At this time, Magnus grew tired of the music scene and left the band as well...

In late Autumn/early Winter 2002, Noctir was joined by Mutilator and Ghoul, on guitar and drums, respectively. The style had shifted to a much more Second Wave Black Metal sound, but very cold and minimalist, with Noctir and Mutilator writing all music. Material for a six song demo was written and rehearsed. The scheduled recording did not take place because the other members had a primary band that was monopolizing their time and Noctir abruptly left for Europe and would not return to the United States for some time. While in Sweden, Noctir was briefly involved in a project called Svart, in late 2004, even recording a demo which was lost as the band broke up a month later.

After Noctir returned to the US, he worked on other cursed projects that eventually fell apart. These bands were inadequate as they had already formed and had a direction of their own which did not coincide with Noctir's vision. By late 2005, Nocturnal Abyss was resurrected under the name Nattsvargr. The search for suitable musicians was long and difficult. Finally, in the Winter months of 2007 Werewolf joined the fold and the writing process began. By July, the "Morbid Night of Melancholy" demo was recorded. The graves are soon to open....

Noctir is the host of "The Abyss", a radio show that has spanned nearly six years and is also co-owner of Nocturnal Abyss Records. Magnus (aka The Stormrider) operates Endless Chaos Distribution.
