Biography : Lessdress

Lessdress formed in 1988 in Warsaw, Poland.

The debut album „Dumblondes” was recorded and released in 1992. The songs were all original and hard rocking (all lyrics were in English) - The band was tagged as glam-rock.

(As strange as it may seem for a band in post communist Poland to be playing in a californian mode, it was in fact a sort of escapism from the politics and greyness of the times).

The second album was released in 1994. Titled „Love Industry”, also in English, it got a fair ammount of attention and airplay. After some „weekend touring” and appearances at major Polish rock festivals, the band began preparations for the 3rd album. Some recordings were made and a fresh approach to heavy sounding music was apparent and promising...

In 1997/98 the songs were finally ready. As the band was looking for the right publisher - tragedy hit. Sławek Onacik, the bass player, died at age 32. It was the effect of a very „rock'n'roll” lifestyle. The band's existance pauses there for 8 years.

In such a brotherly community as was the case here, the loss of a member was too strong a blow to continue. The band dispersed until 2005.

Rearmed with a new bassplayer (also a long time friend) and new songs, the band released it's 3rd album „Sugarfree”. The single „Who's Fucking Who” became a No 1 hit on the Polish rock radio „Antyradio” and stayed there for many weeks. The music on this album is more mature and somewhat darker than previously.

The emphasis now is on rythm. As for as concerts – Lessdress is, as often the case in rock: even better live.

Lessdress has also had some recognition abroad. The first album has become a rock legend in many places far from home. It reached a price of over 700USD in an internet auction in Brasil (it has also been published by Sun City Records an Australian independent label).
