Biography : Kobus

South African band K.O.B.U.S. (Kobus!) was formed in 2000 by ex-Springbok Nude Girls guitarist Theo Crous and ex- Voice of destruction vocalist Francois Breytenbach Blom.

They performed as a duo after releasing an experimental, self-titled debut in 2002. Both musicians veered away almost completely from their previous musical genres and recorded various experimental songs purely to entertain themselves. Crous comes from a Hard Rock background and Blom from Heavy Metal.

The album 'Kobus!' is a mix of electronic, accoustic and electric tracks, ranging from bizarre comedic songs sung in strange impish voices to melancholic ballads. The album can certainly not be called metal and falls into an almost unclassifiable genre, much like the american group 'Ween'.

The 2004 release, 100% Skuldgevoelvry, sees the addition of bassist Rob Nel and drummer Paul Andre Blom (also an ex- Voice of Destruction member)
This 16 track genre-busting fest has Blom and Crous again zig-zagging experimentally through musical styles and moods although a harder edge can be detected (Heldersiende Bedelaar, Storie van die Duiweltjie en die Engeltjie, Karel Void, Kultuurfeestent, Volk van Main) and many of the tracks hint at the two founder members' respective musical histories.
Blom gives a tour de force showcase of his varied vocal talents and range, which makes 100% Skuldgevoelvry a rare, strange listening experience indeed.

2007's Swaar Metaal sees Blom and Crous back on familiar territory in the genre they enjoy and perform best in, Metal.
Rob Nel is replaced on bass by Pierre Tredoux and this 3rd release also sees the band re-christened as "K.O.B.U.S."
