Over the years Illicit Rite has gone through many changes, but now with the loss of their singer the band has been forced to change once again. This time the band is going out as a trio and the vocals are now spat forth by two entities, the guitarist Zach and the bassist Paul.

With this change in the lineup the band has also changed their music. The old songs have been removed completely; as has the bastard mix of black metal and death metal and the band is now focusing purely on the death metal side. There is no more singing or high pitched screams that were reminiscent of metalcore and blackmetal respectively, but instead more gutteral growls that are the trademark of death metal.

Musically the band is faster and more brutal than ever before, laying their slow chugging and single note speed picking down and picking up more technical chops and fretwork. And to add to the brutality, there is more double bass from the drums.

Though constantly evolving and changing their sound, the band has one thing that remains constant; the need to play brutal music, and you can expect more in the future.
