Biography : Funeral Planet

Seeds of Funeral Planet was planted in 2003. Two frustrated doomheads decided to form their kind of band. Mika Hankaniemi and Mika Pajula, whom both had played several years together, started to seek fresh blood around Seinäjoki area. After many alcohol-fueled bar nights, their old friend Jani Härkönen was ready to take a shot. Jani worked out some guitar demos in Tampere and from there, the band started to take form. A lot more work had to be done to find the drummer. Finally Teemu Alho showed his interest and besides his many other commitments, he was more than willing to join.

In April 2004 the foursome started to rehearsing. The band gathered at Teuva based Gömmel studio every fortnight to jam, make new songs and worship the Elders. As the band began to shape, they thought that the name Funeral Planet would best describe their music and style. In August, the doomsters decided to put a few finished songs onto tape. Their first three-song demo "Born in Black" emerged in following month.

Drummer Teemu Alho decided to leave in January to spend more time on his other musical projects and he was soon replaced by Juha Pohto, whom the guys were already familiar with many years. But drummer's seat proved to be windy one. In June, Pohto left to pursue his career with other aspects of life and from there, main core of the band started to search more stable line-up. Funeral Planet became five-piece band in August, when drummer Tomi Kauhajärvi replaced Pohto and guitarist Juha Köykkä joined as additional guitarist. Band started to write new material and working on their second demo at Tomi's rehearsal loft in Kauhajoki.

First gigs with new lineup and new songs were booked. Recordings of new demo "Planetary Rites" started in April at legendary SKIN LIFT Studios. After releasing Planetary Rites, band played a few shows aroun Finland and has strongly taken their place at finnish doom metal scene. At the end of this year, the band took a break to write a new song for upcoming releases. Demo sessions will start at the beginning of 2007 in the legendary SKIN LIFT studios.
