Biography : Enemies Laid To Rest

Enemies Laid to Rest is an American metal band formed in Paola, Kansas. The sound of their music is defined by bright & dark melodies backed by mathematical and chugging rhythms with catchy choruses. Founded in 2004 after Cameron Walker (vocals and drums) met Travis McWhorter (vocals) from AFI's message boards while the two were still in high school. The current-lineup of the group consists of: Cameron Walker (vocals/drums), Travis McWhorter (bass), Greg Reed (rhythm guitar), and Shadoe Crossland (lead guitar).

Having never met and communicating by email, Travis, told Cam that he was starting a band and needed a drummer. To his surprise, Cam played drums and also knew of two guitarists he'd gone to school with (Alex and Greg). Travis recommended his companion Pat to handle bass duties. Thus, Enemies Laid to Rest was formed. This version of the band went on for another year playing local gigs and recording songs in their basement until Travis and Pat both left the band to focus on school and work.

By 2005, the band had a new lineup: Cam Walker (drums and vocals), Greg Reed (rhythm guitar), Alex Burdge (lead guitar), Ricky Barnes (vocals) and Brad Banks (bass). This era saw the inclusion of heavier riffs, sped-up tempos, blast beats and down-tuned guitars. Eventually, the band went on a hiatus then broke up.

In 2008 Ricky (now playing guitar), Cameron, and their friend/guitarist Shadoe Crossland began writing new songs which would later appear on the I Refuse EP. The band, needing a bassist, called up Travis who had recently picked up the instrument, forming the first solid Enemies Laid to Rest lineup. The band headed into Black Lodge Studios just outside of Lawrence, Kansas in January of 2009 and recorded a six song EP later titled I Refuse which spawned one single, "Distance," and also featured guest vocals by local legend Dustin Albright.

By May, Shadoe had left the band citing creative differences and the band's original guitarist stepped back onto the scene. This version: Cam (drums and vocals), Travis (bass), Greg (guitar) and Ricky (guitar) took their music on the road and toured the Midwest solely on DIY standards. Towards the end of it, however, Ricky decided to leave and pursue school. The band spent the rest of 2009 laying low.

For the first six months of 2010, the band stayed stagnant until the guys called up Shadoe and asked if he'd come out to a practice session. He agreed and instantly the chemistry felt right. Within a month, E.L.T.R. had written a brand new song. About the same time, they were contacted by Dark Slate Records inviting them to record a single. In February of 2011, Paradigm Shift was born. Dark Slate, having been impressed by the single, signed Enemies Laid to Rest. The band has since went on to excel in their local scene opening for bands such as Parkway Drive, Suicide Silence and Eyes Set to Kill.

The band continues to pickup momentum. On November 2nd, Enemies Laid to Rest competed for the opening slot to open for Asking Alexandria and Hollywood Undead at the World War III tour in Kansas City and won the battle, enabling them to drastically increase their exposure and fan base around the area. Reverbnation.com has also selected the band as a "Featured Artist" on their homepage from 11/13 through 11/19.
