Biography : Dust (GER)

German heavy doom band DUST was formed in 1998 by Igor Popovic (drums), Christoph Kröger (guitar) and Kay Grossmann (guitar). The line-up was quickly complete by adding Olli Karic (vocals) and Thomas Kröger (Bass) who was replaced by Thomas Pflug in 2004.
Between 1999 and 2002 they released 3 very successful demo CD-R's and gained more and more attention in the scene. While "Olympus Trip" and "Smell the Burning" sounded a bit more stoner and less aggressive they defined their unique sound on the self-titled demo in 2002. It features an uncompromisingly heavy and filthy fusion of sludge, doom and noise but alwys with a surprisingly psychedelic and bluesy undertone. Moving somewhere between Black Sabbath, Venom, Eyehategod, Saint Vitus and Hawkwind or early Ufo, the quintet sometimes uses the term 'Psychoaggressive Doom' to describe their sound and influences.
In late 2004 DUST recorded a raw EP entitled "Reblown" which is seen as the first 'regular' release by the band and was an appetizer for the long awaited first full length album "High Density Amplitude" (2006). Now working in a proper studio the tracks finally came along in a much better sound quality which quickly led to a lot of good reviews and growing popularity in scene magazines. This was followed by more live shows in Germany than ever before. It is said that their filthy attitude and the outstanding frontman runs over the unprepared audience like a 'massive train going up an enormous mountain'. On stage the songs reach full intensity and often beat the studio versions by far.
Back in the studio in 2008 the second album "Receive the Frequency" was put down and continued in the same vein as its predecessor. It now became possible to bring their sound across the borders to neighbouring countries.
For the current album "Distortion Empire" Dust took some more time to enhance songwriting, arrangements and production. The result is without doubt the best output so far. Now sounding tighter and more fluent but without losing any of the usual roughness they reach an even higher intensity in their songs. After almost 15 years of existence DUST is now among the most constant representatives of german heavy doom bands...
