Biography : Deleterious

Deleterious is the offspring of a two man project called INRI. In the spring of 1999 Bart (guitar/vocals) and Yorick (bass/keys) started out covering songs of e.g. Immortal, Impaled Nazarene and Mayhem, thus defining the direction they went with their own material. Mainly due to Bart's classical musical education, the raw though atmospheric early material got quickly interspersed with more avant-garde and classical influences, resulting in the 2002 mcd “Entangled In A Paradox”.

Though positive critics were received on the mcd, INRI didn't do as many gigs as anticipated. Problems with finding a capable and willing keyboard player restricted the band to only a few shows. More inconvenience arose when a signed Dutch death metal act decided “I.N.R.I.” would be a suitable band name. Eventually (da troo) INRI changed their name to Deleterious.

In the meantime the band had been searching for a real drummer to replace the portable one called Evil Piglet. Melvin, the singer of Yorick's other band Led Astray and previously drumming for Obscenery, turned out to be perfectly suited for the job. Unfortunately somewhat later another keyboard player quit the band and drastic measures were taken by replacing her with a second guitarist. Two came and went before Yorick took up the guitar duties himself. Shortly thereafter Martine from a.o. Belle Gunness completed the line-up as a bass player and serious preparations for gigs and a new cd began.

Since the musical style may be somewhat hard to describe, perhaps it's sufficient to say Deleterious has a modern approach towards black and death metal, aiming for variety and originality.

The 28th of September, 2007, Deleterious presented their 5-track demo/mcd “Suspiciously Close to Infinity”.
