Biography : Badhoven

Founded in July 2001 by Kurt C. Greilberger (vocals, guitar), Gerhard Paar (keyboard), Jacky Greilberger (bass) and Gerd Sojka (drums), BADHOVEN released their debut album “Behind the Masquerade“ in October the very same year. The reviews in magazines all over Europe ranged from good to excellent. And even in far away L.A. a detailed and enthusiastic article was published. The band got interviewed for the radio and their tracks were on air in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, England and Italy.

In 2003 they captured South America and made first place in the Rockum magazine charts. And they were able to hold that position for quite some time even against more famous competitors like SKID ROW. Of course BADHOVEN-tracks were on air in South America too.
2004 was a year of great changes for the band. Recordings for a new album got under way, overshadowed by the knowledge that founding member Jacky Greilberger would be leaving the band by the end of the year for professional reasons. The last live gig of the original line-up as support act for Austrian legends NO BROS drew fans from all over the country and even from Germany to the “Planet Music” in Vienna. It was one of the best concerts BADHOVEN ever played.
Recordings were finished by the end of 2004 and in June 2005 “Believe” was released. 10 terrific songs and a video for the title track brought BADHOVEN to an ever growing audience. At the beginning of June Dominik “Dom E. Nick” Strutzenberger, formerly just a guest musician, became the new bassist. Although he had been a guitarist up until then it took him only two weeks to get the hang of Jacky’s Fretless bass, and at the CD-release-party he was able to convince every one of his qualities as a live musician.

On November 10, 2006, a concert at the “Orpheum” in Graz was filmed with 7 cameras and in March 2007 the DVD “Captured Live” was presented to the public. In September 2007 Jürgen “Jorgino” Ehrenmüller was announced as the new man on the bass.
In April 2008 Belgian guitar virtuoso Wim Roelants, who has been performing with legends like Phil Campbell (MOTÖRHEAD), Virgil Donati (Steve Vai), Dario Lorina (WARRANT), Richie Kotzen (MR. BIG) and URIAH HEEP, joined the band as a sideman to support BADHOVEN especially live on the lead guitar. He integrated himself incredibly fast into the group and took their sound onto a higher level. The first official gig of this line-up brought them again to the “Planet Music” in Vienna as support act of Graham Bonnet and it was a great success.

May 2009 found BADHOVEN once again without a bassist but not for long. Erwin Lichtenegger soon filled the vacancy bringing with him not only a feeling for excellent bass arrangements but also some Metal influences which lend a new “hardness” and edge to the BADHOVEN sound.
