Biography : Apriaca

In early 1999 Johannes “Jak“ Jakober and Dominik “Dom“ Sauper started a journey that took them away from the usual pursuits and pastimes of teenagers and deep into the territory of „hard“ music. Influenced by bands like METALLICA, MEGADETH, JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN they started to play in an old cellar. A few months later Jak and Dom founded their first band, BLACK PANTHER. The line-up was completed by two of their friends: Thomas “Wolle” Wallner on the second guitar and Christoph “Chris” Wagner on the bass.
BLACK PANTHER survived several years and played even some live gigs until Wolle and Chris left the band because of other interests. A few more concerts with guest musicians followed, and then the band was history. Until 2005 Dom and Jak performed with several other groups but they never gave up dreaming of their own band.
In June 2005 the two boys practised a few songs with Anton “Amp” Pichler for the birthday party of a friend. Several hours and drinks later they came up with the crazy idea of founding a band that would perform rock and metal songs on acoustic guitars. SALT’N’PEANUTS was born. The line-up was completed by the guy whose birthday they had been celebrating: Manuel “Mango” Manges.
In the winter 2005/06 the band played several concerts and in spring 2006 they decided to participate in a Carinthian band contest. Under the new name SNP the guys made it into the finals!
Due to their success as a live band they decided on a more professional approach. In September 2006 work on their first studio album began. During the recording a new name and a new image were found. At the CD-Release-party APRIACA presented “The Philosopher’s Legacy”. Live gigs – for instance at the 2007 Rock-the-Lake Festival – followed.
But soon the band and Amp started to have different opinions and priorities. So their ways parted and in September 2007 a new bass player was announced: Patrick “Weba” Steiner, formerly a member of NIGHTCRAWLA.
In March 2009 APRIACA released an EP – “B.Sides09” – containing a video of their song “Violent Youth” and a tribute to their heroes METALLICA in the form of a cover version of “Disposable Heroes”. In the autumn of the same year the composing and song writing for their second album started.
In early 2010 the recording was done in a relatively short time but due to problems with the producers it hasn’t been released yet. Nevertheless, hopes are high that “Shadows in the Shape of Man” containing 9 tracks will be published by the end of summer 2010.
