Biography : Animal Mother

Fully expecting to fall by the wayside long before this point, here we stand amazed at our ability to get over our selves and the adversities life throws at us. While we try to keep good humor and fun at the top of the menu, there's always a sense of achievement underlying all that we do. When you look over your shoulder and find your mates all pulling their weight...Frankly, it's empowering and energizing. So on we happily trudge through the muck of our muddy Michigan music scene.

Mark Morton from Lamb Of God recently made a statement that caught my eye: "As long as the five of us enjoy making music together, nothing else matters...fans included." (or something to that effect). There's only four of us in Animom, but man, that statement hit home. We aren't trying to catch the next popular train or fad. We are what we are, and we'd be jamming in Russ's living room anyway. Might as well go out & gig! There's never cancellations or excuses. Norm makes sure of that. He's in the construction business all year long, and especially if he's been framing or roofing...you'd better be in a body bag before calling off practice...He'll be there with bells on ready to work, aching and hobbling, never complaining.

While it's difficult to pigeon hole us into any one genre, we think we're Classic Rock and Classic Metal combined, striving for the best musical future we can construct.
A recent interview with The Lansing NOISE pegged us as 'Energetic, loud & fun' and sounding something akin to Saliva. We get the modern Led Zeppelin with Slayer overtones tag too (is that possible???).New songs we're writing are more structurally complex and progressive with everyone doing their best to bring a catchy 'hook' to their parts.

Spanky has been getting a lot of compliments lately and just wait until you hear the new stuff. We've been "wood shedding" and it shows. One new song 'Take Me Home' is about animal cruelty and how they forgive our worst, senseless brutalities - becoming our best friends when we rescue them. This new song is already in our set list with fist punching power, getting great crowd response and approval."GreedLust" is hot off the press and is a twisted songwriting clinic of deliciousness-we can't wait to play it out to see how it's received. There's hair raising goose bumps listening back to the practice tapes of it.

We just released a 5TH CD 'No Rules' in December 2007. You might think we'd be kicking back & taking it easy for a minute, but I already have a manila file folder on my desk with studio notes for our next recording (it'll be a while, but there's no such thing as too many notes!).Happily, it looks like we'll be able to continue to record with Tim Lau of 'Laud Productions' with him flying up here from Florida and working at 'P.O.ed Productions' with Pat Ondrus co-producing at the helm (Pat just remodeled his studio so as to be able to record drums as well as all the other tracks, now making him a full service recording studio. THANK YOU PAT!!!). Guess I'd like to drop a name here, our wizard Mr. Lau has just finished recording 'Soulfly' (ex-Sepultura / Max Cavalera) for the 'Roadrunner Records' label and it will be AWESOME to finally see his name on something top level professional & distributed worldwide.
We started off recording with him. He knows our sound. He has our back, and calling him a 'wizard' isn't far off the mark. Listening to 'No Rules' proves that. With him & Pat at 'P.O.ed Productions' there is already splendid speculation about the next CD.
