Biography : Angelspit

Angelspit is a band from Sydney, Australia. The band was formed in 2004 by vocalist DestroyX (Amelia Tan AKA Amelia Arsenic) and synthesist ZooG (Karl Learmont AKA Karl Von Rock) and shortly after released the independent EP Nurse Grenade, later that year. Their first studio-produced album, Krankhaus, was released in 2006, by Dancing Ferret Discs, and was followed by the release their second album, Blood Death Ivory, on July 8, 2008. The band's music combines unique and stylistic elements of horror, gothic, punk and electronic music as well as pop and metal and their work contains imagery revolving around medical experiments and grotesque societies.

On the 23rd March 2009, the band announced that they would release "Black Kingdom Red Kingdom" a remix album of "Blood Death Ivory" on the 15th May. Remixes included those by KMFDM, Alec Empire, Ayria, I:scintilla, Baal, Ego Likeness and many other talented remix artists. "Black Kingdom Red Kingdom" is said to be a "'visual remix' of Blood Death Ivory's design and is presented more as an art package, than your regular CD.". It will be released through Angelspit's own Label Black Pill Red Pill.

Angelspit has toured through Australia and New Zealand supporting bands including Angel Theory, Ayria, Ikon, KMFDM, Tankt and The Crüxshadows. After touring the United States' east coast in March 2007, the band relocated temporarily to Berlin, Germany, but returned to Sydney until late 2009, when the band moved to New York City.

From September 23, 2009 to October 31, 2009, Angelspit went on tour in the USA supporting KMFDM on their 25th anniversary tour. Angelspit was in turn supporting their third studio album, "Hideous and Perfect", which was released on September 9, 2009.

To date, the band has released three music videos, for "Vena Cava", directed by Drew Bowie and Brad Wylie from their studio album Krankhaus, "Fuck The Revolution" from their studio album Hideous and Perfect and "Sleep Now" from their remix album Lava Pupa Tank Coffin.
Karl Learmont (Zoog) and Amelia Tan (Destroyx), met on an online zine forum. They shared an interest in zines and started the distro Vox Populis in 2002. They then started making zines for themselves which became the lyrical inspiration for albums to follow. Angelspit was born in 2004 when they released their first EP, Nurse Grenade.

The band's first studio album Krankhaus was released on June 6th 2006, on Dancing Ferret Discs, and was re-issued in 2007 with a remix disc entitled "Surgically Atoned". The disc featured remixes by Combichrist and Ego Likeness. While there were no singles from the album, "Vena Cava" received a video release on the internet. The band toured Australia, the USA and Europe where they lived in Berlin to record their second studio album Blood Death Ivory.

In June 2008, they released their second studio album "Blood Death Ivory". The album was written and recorded between 2006 and 2008. Again, the band continued to tour the new material around Europe and the USA. A full overview of the album's creation can be read on the band's official site, http://www.angelspit.net/news/diary/bdi-overview.htm. As with Krankhaus, no singles where released from the album, but a remix disc entitled "Black Kingdom Red Kingdom" was released in 2009. Around this time the band began to produce "Blipverts", short video blogs and tutorials on various topics, including the production of the band's third album. This was the bands last release on Dancing Ferret Discs.

On September 9th 2009 (09/09/09) the band released their third full length album Hideous and Perfect. The album received promotion by Angelspit via the mini-site http://www.hideousandperfect.com/ and through a video teaser. As with the previous two albums, no singles were released but a video for "Fuck The Revolution" was released and a new EP/remix disc entitled "Larva Pupa Tank Coffin" was released on the 10th of October 2010 (10/10/10). "Larva Pupa Tank Coffin" includes 4 brand new tracks by Angelspit and remixes by the band themselves as well as other artists. A video for the track "Sleep Now" accompanies the release.
