Before Nightfall originally started in the mind of a young Michael Varlet, a guitarist and composer who, frankly, just enjoyed playing music. After composing many songs in many styles, Varlet found his true calling in the Melodic Death Metal genre.

At the age of 15, Michael started a band called 'Crescent Moon', in which he released a few songs, played some small local gigs and made it into the newspaper and 'Quest magazine'. Crescent Moon quickly disbanded, leaving Varlet eager to hit the stage once again.

After high school, Michael needed another band so he could get his music out to other peoples ears. On a quest for other musicians, Varlet stopped at nothing to find the perfect members for his project.

Brent Harman was soon discovered through Michael's brother's band 'Insinner'. Brent quickly joined after hearing a song Varlet had recorded in his bedroom at the age of 16 which blew him away. Harman had to be a part of this exciting new sound and soon the magic between the two began.
