Coldrain (JAP)

Born in Nagoya, Japan to an American mother and a Japanese father with an older brother six years older than him. Masato David Hayakawa is the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, lyricist and occasional producer for the Japanese post-hardcore band Coldrain.

Due to being Japanese-American, Hayakawa is bilingual as a result. A valuable asset for him that he was forced to learn growing up due to his English speaking American mother from Iowa being an English teacher working in Japan who taught both of her children including Hayakawa who absolutely hated learning English. Though, he would end up being very grateful for such a skill in the long run with watching English speaking programmes on Television helping him understand the language better.

Hayakawa got into heavy music as a teenager in the year of 1999 when nu-metal had taken the world by storm. He recalls watching Korn and Limp Bizkit music videos on MTV for the first time on holiday in the US visiting his American relatives and finding these new bands who would later inspire him to become an artist.

His two favourite bands growing up were Linkin Park and Incubus with Chester Bennington and Brandon Boyd respectively being the biggest vocal inspirations on his singing. Other bands who inspired Hayakawa were Papa Roach, Slipknot, Hoobastank, Metallica, The Used, Silverchair and Sevendust.
