At first, the cover is charming as well as likeable - and when I had a look at the inner sleeve, I noticed that three guitarists appear in the line-up. After I gathered information, I found out that the members are partly borrowed from DUSK RITUAL’s brother bands Stand
Ablaze and
Azrael. Band-incest is not only common in
Norway, hehe! So the good guitar work is easy to explain, but apart from that the guys offer cool ideas and quite unconventional music for all metal fans.
The opening chords of the title song With Rum, Skulls
And Crossbones underline DUSK RITUAL’s motto: a lot of melodies, scratchy vocals, a big portion of joy in playing and having fun. Yes, metal has to amuse, and this music is really predestined to be performed on stage, where the good vibrations are spread (I witnessed it for several times). The good temper is maintained with the following, strange entitled Fleischeseis und Seelenfeuer, these are the right tunes for a cheery party. I don’t want to forget to mention that the instrumental performance of the three songs is really skilful. The closing track Purify is the fastest one and features a dirty Rock’n’roll attitude, garnished with scampered guitar leads and solos spraying elation in music. Bass and drums provide a pumping, solid sound carpet.
The production is really more than acceptable for a demo recording, therefore I can recommend with clear conscience to order this album for only 3 € (& add. packaging) on the band’s homepage.
