Fifteen years ago Portuguese metal scene was seriously underground, with few bands having the chance to record their albums properly and release them. By this time, bands like Moonspell were struggling to make their move into the world of music, releasing demo tapes and playing in small places with little or no conditions.

Ramp made, at the time, a Rampant entrance in Portuguese metal scene, by releasing this thrash metal album and by coming from... nowhere!!... Well, some self-financing was involved for sure, but this was a positive release and Ramp are nowadays seen as an important pillar for metal scene in Portugal.

The album itself, sounded a bit like having heavy influence by bands like Metallica, Megadeth or even Tankard, but technically it worked nice, although it sounded vulgar. Songs like "Disilusion" are too common, with nothing to be enthusiastic about.

The best moments are "The Last Child", a Metallica-like ballad with some melancholic moments and a strong refrain, and the Sperm Birds cover of "Try again".

The voices are relatively weak, the production is so-so, taking away some of the album's power, the bass sometimes is too proeminent and the riffs look like they're mostly stolen from other band, so this first album from Ramp is not a great display of both creativity nor it sounds good enough to be an enjoyable liste. Anyway, as they clone some riffs and solos from great bands, you might want to give it a try...

L4G4RT0 - 19 February 2008: I know. They're much better than this album shows... Really, although this can be a good album to the die-hard fans of the band, it's not a good overall album. They'd do much better later (in my humble opinion of course) :)
AlmaMater - 19 February 2008: You're right, Intersection or even E.D.R are much better, but you shouldn't forget the conditions they had where not the same as later and for a first album I think you were a litlle harsh on them. More than 15 Years later it's still a nice release even if a "litlle" outdated.
RAVM - 18 January 2013: Not many people know or remember this, but this was actually a mini-album only recorded in vinyl. The last 3 songs were added later and it was released as a full length CD. A closer listener will notice that the production changes (for better) on those last 3 songs. Today is quite old, OK, but 20 years ago this was something special for portuguese fans like me. I bought both versions and I still like it. I was 21, 22 years of age and thirsty for metal bands like this one. In March 1992 Ramp opened for Sepultura and Fudge Tunnel at Cascais. I never saw Fudge Tunnel. Had to go to the hospital deu to a head clash. Got myself 5 or 6 stitches. What a show!
L4G4RT0 - 18 January 2013: As I stated on the review, RAMP appeared out of nowhere, because I was always searching for metal bands and somehow they appeared out of nowhere. Yes, I believe I was a bit harsh on them as AlmaMater said, but I reviewed the album not as a fan, but as a musical critic and overall it's not a very strong album, although they really made an impression because there were so little metal bands recording albums by then (in Portugal). I could easily give them a 12 or 13 by this, but I feel it would be unfair for the much better albums they released afterwards. Anyway thank you for the information about the mini-album. I was not aware of that!!
